Leveraging techniques and knowledge areas on business intelligence projects; earn IIBA PDUs/CDUs towards certification

The business analyst plays a key role in activities that elicit, document, analyze and model requirements as stated by business stakeholders into terms that IT solution providers can understand.  The same goes the other way.  A business analyst takes the statements of the IT group and puts them into terms a business stakeholder can understand.

A key project where this skill is of importance is data projects, especially projects that include a business intelligence component.

Research by Thomas Davenport, Jeanne Harris and Robert Morison suggests that “40% of major decisions are not based on fact, but on the manager’s gut.”  The business analyst will continue to play a key role in projects that bring value to an organization that helps managemnt make better decisions with the data at their disposal.  Getting the data to the point where better decisions can be made is the subject of a course that is being offered by Smoothcube that it believes fills a gap that is required in the BA community.

I have found that many colleagues I work with or have trained with say that they would like more training on data projects, such as data modelling.  I coupled this knowledge with my discovery through research that there was little in the way of providing business analysts with training on the business intelligence perspective of the IIBA’s BABOK.  This perspective is well documented in chapter 11 of the BABOK.  I wanted to fill this gap using my experience as a BA, database administrator and certified business intelligence professional.

Smoothcube has tailored an online and classroom version of its 2-day course “Methods, models and concepts for the business analyst on business intelligence projects” towards providing business analysts with key learning insights they can leverage on their own data projects.  The course is IIBA-endorsed.  Students completing the course receive 15 PDUs/CDUs toward their IIBA certification or re-certification.
